The Comparison Hangover
Ever hit a milestone that should’ve felt like victory… only to immediately scan the room and think, “But they’re still winning”?
That crushing feeling in your chest? That’s not motivation. That’s the comparison hangover.
I’ve lived most of my life drunk on other people’s scorecards: rankings in the Navy, salaries and titles in corporate, income reports and follower counts in entrepreneurship. Even when I started sharing my voice again, I’d post something raw and real… only to watch it shrink the second I measured it against someone else’s engagement.
Here’s what I learned the hard way:
Comparison doesn’t motivate you. It mutilates you.
This episode unpacks why measuring up always makes you smaller and how to finally stop auditioning for someone else’s story.
In This Episode:
* Why comparison murders presence
* How it rewrites your wins in real time
* Why it poisons connection and kills collaboration
* A three-step reset to burn down the scoreboard
✦ Reflection Prompts:
* What scoreboard have I been playing on that was never mine?
* Where am I measuring my chapter one against their chapter twenty?
* If I stopped chasing “bigger” and started chasing “truer,” who would I become?
✦ The Boost (Action Step):
* Name the Poison – Identify the metric that keeps hijacking your joy.
* Burn the Scoreboard – Replace their measure with your identity-driven one: Am I aligned? Am I alive? Am I becoming?
* Celebrate in Isolation – Name one win and let it breathe without comparison.
If comparison has kept you hungover, shrinking every win until it feels like nothing, let’s reframe your scoreboard. In your Identity Clarity Call, we’ll expose the old metrics that keep you small and align your life to the truth of who you are.
✦ On the Next Episode:
The Imposter Illusion: Why Doubt is Data, Not a Diagnosis.
Because the second you stop comparing, another lie crawls in… that your doubt means you’re a fraud. But imposter thoughts aren’t a diagnosis. They’re data.
